Butterfly Outing Club was founded in 2019 in response to parents’ requests and encouragement. Parenting—especially in the early years—can be both rewarding and challenging. The ages of 0–5 represent a vital window for nurturing brain development, language acquisition, self-awareness, and conscious thinking, all of which lay the foundation for lifelong learning and well-being.
Many parents struggle to meet their child’s needs while also caring for themselves. This club was created to support new parents by offering opportunities to learn parenting skills, explore the Mandarin language, and connect with nature—fostering stronger families and deeper parent-child relationships.
As children grew, the Solo Butterfly Program was introduced to support older kids who are ready to explore more independently, without a parent nearby. Building on this, I later expanded our offerings to include seasonal camps to further support learning, connection, and nature exploration.
Nancy is a mother of three who is passionate about helping families connect with nature. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her own children and supporting other families in building meaningful relationships with the natural world.
She grew up in a small riverside town in China, where her childhood was filled with outdoor exploration—catching fish, crafting toys from clay, and discovering the nearby grassy fields with neighborhood friends. These early experiences fostered a lifelong appreciation for nature and inspired her commitment to helping others create similar connections.
Nancy has over 10 years of experience working in outdoor related industry as a product manager in China. After moving to the Bay Area with her family, she developed a strong interest in children’s education, particularly play-based learning and honoring each child’s unique interests and developmental path. She has worked as a private Mandarin tutor and as an instructor for children without access to formal Mandarin programs.
She is the founder of Butterfly Outing Club, which was created to support families in learning parenting skills through nature-based experiences, in response to growing interest and questions from parents. Since 2022, Nancy has also volunteered at the Little Chinese Bookworm Library, where she leads weekly toddler storytimes.
Nancy holds a B.A. in Economics and an MBA. She has completed all required Teacher Pipeline coursework in early childhood education and is currently finishing her Associate Degree for Transfer in Child and Adolescent Development at a local community college. She plans to continue her academic journey to better serve not only her students, but also their families.
